Tributes have been paid to a "popular and fun-loving" girl who died when she was hit by a marked police car.
Hayley Adamson, 16, was struck as she crossed Newcastle's Denton Road, late on Monday night.
Angry witnesses confronted police and a 23-year-old man was subdued with a Taser stun gun and arrested. He has since been released without charge.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is carrying out an investigation.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said there had been no trouble in the area overnight on Tuesday, after an appeal for calm.
He said the driver had been removed from operational duties involving police vehicles, but was still working as a police officer on office duties.
Miss Adamson, who lived with her mother in Cedar Road in Fenham, Newcastle, and who celebrated her 16th birthday in March, was due to sit her GCSE English exam on Tuesday.
Patricia Wager, head teacher of Sacred Heart RC High School in Newcastle, said: "Hayley was a happy, popular and fun-loving student.
"There is a deep sense of shock at the school today and we are supporting her classmates and friends.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time."
One of many tributes on the Gone Too Soon website reads: "Hayley was such a loving and caring girl she would do anything for anyone as anyone who knew her will know.
"She was always laughing and carrying on. She was only 16, she was looking forward to leaving school this week.
"That's all she talked about these last few days. She still had the whole of her life ahead of her and we will miss her so much."
'Deep regret'
Floral tributes were laid at the scene on Tuesday.
Supt Dave Wormald, of the neighbourhood policing team in Newcastle, said: "We continue to extend our sympathy to Hayley's family and friends.
"We deeply regret the loss of a young life and share in the sadness being felt by the whole community."
He said there had been no further incidents of disturbance overnight, describing the situation in the area as "back to normal".
