Woman, 23, dies as car hits tree

A 23-year-old woman was killed when her car crashed into a tree on Tyneside.

Stacey Rogers lost control of the car on Roman Road, Jarrow, on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Ms Rogers, of The Willows, Jarrow, was pronounced dead at the scene and her male passenger was treated at hospital for a broken elbow.

Both Roman Road and the adjacent Leam Lane were closed for more than four hours following the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact police.
