Police seize 680 cannabis plants

Hundreds of cannabis plants have been found at a house on North Tyneside in what police describe as a large-scale commercial operation.

Officers went to Lish Avenue in Whitley Bay on Thursday after reports of a strong smell of cannabis.

They discovered 680 plants, with an estimated street value of more than £800,000. Growing equipment was also seized.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said inquiries were ongoing.
