Bad weather takes toll on roads

The first bad weather of the winter has taken its toll on roads in Cumbria.

Most problems happened in the south of the county on Friday night when a number of hailstorms left stretches of the M6 icy despite repeated grittings.

There was a 10 vehicle shunt near Tebay and a similar incident near Killington services on Saturday morning.

There were also dozens of less serious accidents. Police say people were driving too fast in poor visibility and on a clearly icy road.

The Kirkstone Pass, north of Ambleside, was closed overnight due to heavy snow.
