Motorist killed as car hits tree

A driver was killed when his car came off the road and collided with a tree in Northumberland.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday morning on the B6341 between Elsdon and Hepple.

Northumbria Police say the Ford Fiesta left the road after failing to negotiate a bend.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, died and a 20-year-old male passenger received minor injuries. Police are asking any witnesses to contact them.
