Woman given alcohol purchase ban

Angela Wrightson

A Teesside woman has been branded a "habitual drunkard" and banned from buying alcohol.

Angela Wrightson was issued with a two-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order, after being involved in dozens of offences related to alcohol misuse and disorder.

The 34-year-old, of Stephen Street in Hartlepool, will be fined £200 if she is caught trying to obtain alcohol anywhere in England or Wales.

If found drunk she will be arrested and asked where she got the alcohol.

Licensed premises will be fined £500 if they knowingly sell, supply or distribute alcohol to her.

The Safer Hartlepool Anti-Social Behaviour Unit (ASBU) said it used powers under the 1902 Licensing Act to obtain the Asbo.

It will be sending letters and posters to all licensed premises in the town.

Nicholas Stone, from ASBU, said: "Angela Wrightson has consistently refused to engage with the support that she has been offered over a number of years by various agencies regarding her alcohol problems, and she has refused to stop her drunk and disorderly behaviour.

"This declaration by the court will not only put the emphasis on her behaviour, but also make it the responsibility of licensees not to sell her alcohol."
