Footballers given driving lessons

Young players for Darlington FC are among the first in the country to take part in a special driving course in a bid to promote road awareness.

The 16 and 17-year-olds are being taught a number of skills by the British School of Motoring (BSM).

Backed by the Professional Footballers Association, the initiative has been introduced to encourage safer driving.

A BSM spokesman said young men were statistically more likely to be involved in accidents.
