Plans for a new £420m hospital with space for 1,000 cars have gone on display on Teesside.

The new 660-bed "super hospital" will be built at Wynyard, near Stockton, north of the A689 and west of the A19.

It will also cater for patients in Hartlepool, Stockton and parts of Easington and Sedgefield.

The hospital will also boast 24 wards and 14 operating theatres. The display is at Peterlee Leisure Centre until 2000 GMT on Wednesday.

Some local residents petitioned against the move for the seven-storey building, claiming it would create traffic problems and they were not properly consulted.

The plans will also be on display at Stockton Swallow Hotel on 13 January and Sedgefield Parish Hall on 15 January.
