£90m school revamp is unveiled

Plans to spend £90m revamping education on Teesside have been unveiled.

The plans for Redcar and Cleveland include amalgamating St Margaret Clitherow's and St Mary's primary schools and St Peter's secondary.

Governors at Freebrough College have also agreed to explore the option of making the site into an Academy.

Redcar and Cleveland Council will now forward its improvement blueprint for the future to the Government for approval, after a public consultation.

The council's cabinet member for children's services and education, Ian Jeffrey said: "Through this investment we will be better placed to engage and inspire young people, their teachers and the wider community.

"The proposals to be taken forward are the culmination of eight months of informal consultation on possible options.

"The options have now been refined into a set of proposals that have been designed to meet local need and to fit with national strategy."

The council is also planning to create a community learning campus in Eston Park.
