Views sought on campus building

Residents near the University of Teesside are being consulted on plans to build a £9.9m sport and health centre on the campus.

The university wants to open the four-storey building, featuring dentistry and sports therapy facilities, at the Middlesbrough site by summer 2010.

A planning application is set to be submitted to the town's council soon.

A public consultation event is being held at the university's Centuria building on 15 September.

The new building, linking to the Centuria building, would feature a series of laboratories, including specialist dental, biomechanic and hydrotherapy facilities, and a number of general teaching rooms and academic offices.

The North-East Strategic Health Authority along with Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trusts will be contributing £1.3m towards the building's dental equipment.

Plans for the building are being developed by CPMG architects.
