Windsurfer rescued in rough seas

A windsurfer was rescued by lifeboat after being blown-off course in bad weather off the Teesside coast.

The 41-year-old, a firefighter from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, was reported to be struggling with his board in high winds near Saltburn on Sunday morning.

He was eventually picked up by the Redcar Lifeboat Crew further down the coast, close to Huntcliff.

The rescue happened 24 hours after four sea anglers scrambled to shore after their boat overturned off Saltburn.

RNLI helmsman Cameron Bond said the windsurfer was uninjured in the latest incident.

He said: "The man had blown a long way from the position where he was first spotted. By the time we picked him up he was completely exhausted. He looked like he thought he was a goner."
