Middlesbrough poised to 'Pass Go'

Monopoly game Celebrated London streets are to give way to Middlesbrough landmarks in a new game of Monopoly.

Middlesbrough has ousted Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff and Belfast to get its own game, after Boro reached the EUFA final and put the town on the map.

In all, 33 places will appear on the brand new customised board.

The Transporter Bridge and Riverside Stadium are all likely to be featured, and residents are being invited to give their own suggestions.

The Monopoly Middlesbrough edition is produced by Winning Moves UK, under license from the brand-owners, Hasbro Properties Group, and will be on sale in time for Christmas.

Landmarks, tourist hotspots, and sporting and art institutions will all be represented.

Mark Marriott, the Monopoly Middlesbrough edition creator, said: "It's vital the new board reflects the hearts and minds of Middlesbrough and the length and breadth of the town.

"That's why we are polling the people who know best, the great Middlesbrough public."

He added: "We are looking mainly for landmarks but we are open minded about how the board looks.

"The underlining factor is that it reflects the essence and spirit of Middlesbrough."

Monopoly was invented in 1935, and over 200 million copies have been sold worldwide, in 32 different languages.
