A 16-year-old boy and a man have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after another man was found with life-threatening injuries in Brighton.

Joel Henson, 25, was discovered with a head injury near Mithras House at the University of Brighton on Tuesday.

He underwent emergency surgery and is currently in a critical but stable condition at the Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, Haywards Heath.

The boy and man aged 20 were remanded in custody by Brighton magistrates.

Sussex Police said the pair were both from the Brighton area.

Detectives have been investigating whether Mr Henson was involved in a fight in The Level Park at about 2000 BST on Monday.

They hope to find people who saw Mr Henson between 2000 BST and midnight, when he was found near the university.

He may have appeared dazed, unsteady or confused, a police spokesperson said.

Officers visited the area on Wednesday to speak to potential witnesses.
