Ambulance fire blocks main road

An ambulance on fire caused delays to rush hour motorists travelling on a busy route through East Sussex.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the A27 between Dittons and Polegate at 0735 BST. No-one was injured and the ambulance did not have any patients.

The road had to be closed to allow crews from Pevensey and Hailsham to extinguish the blaze.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said it was believed to have been caused by a mechanical fault in the ambulance.
