Views sought on travellers' sites

Proposals on where Gypsies and travellers could live in East Sussex are being unveiled at a consultation event in Bexhill.

The regional assembly is consulting on four options, which set out how much accommodation is needed in counties across the South East.

A touring exhibition will visit Lewes, Hastings, Uckfield and Eastbourne during October.

The assembly said local councils would decide where the sites should be.

Chair of the assembly's planning committee, Councillor Moira Gibson said views were being sought on 10-year targets.

She said: ""After years of uncertainty over making space for the Gypsy and travelling communities, councils now have a duty to provide new spaces in a bid to cut homelessness and reduce unauthorised encampments."

The region-wide consultation runs until 21 November.
