Woman hurt in family dog attack

A woman in her 70s is in hospital with serious injuries to her leg after she was attacked at her home in West Sussex by the family's Alsatian dog.

The woman was taken to Worthing Hospital by Sussex Police helicopter after the attack at a house in Nutbourne Common, near Pulborough.

Police and paramedics shut the dog in another room inside the house while they treated the woman on Friday.

Dog handlers working with a vet later put the dog down.

A spokesman said there was no threat to anyone outside the property and police are not planning to investigate the incident any further.
