Blaze destroys derelict building

Fire scene

A fire has destroyed a derelict building in Horsham, West Sussex.

Crews were called to the former college site, in Hurst Road, late on Friday. They found flames on the first floor and smoke pouring from the building.

A spokesman said smoke was "pulsing" against a window, which blew out seconds later, shattering glass below.

Firefighters said no-one had been inside the building and that the cause of the fire was currently unknown. The site was being inspected on Saturday.

The spokesman said crews stayed at the scene throughout the night, and an estimated 95% of the first floor and roof was damaged by the blaze.
