Crash suspect coaxed off rooftop

Police negotiators spent several hours coaxing a man off the roof of a house after officers tried to question him in connection with a car crash.

Officers went to the house in Castle Way, Worthing, just before 1000 GMT on Saturday in response to a collision nearby on Ringmer Road.

Sussex Police said the man escaped onto the roof where he caused some damage by removing tiles.

The man was arrested and is being questioned by police.
