Youth web radio hunts for talent

A new web-based radio station for young people in part of Sussex has started recruiting volunteers.

Lewes Youth Web Radio is looking for young DJs and performers to host shows and record features for the station.

The project is being run by Lewes District Council's cultural Services, Lewes YMCA and East Sussex County Council's Youth Development Service.

It follows the success of the Soundwave 2008 radio in February. The radio is being broadcast on weekday evenings.

Jaan Madan, from the county council's Youth Development Service, said: "We want this to be a radio station for young people by young people.

"The aim is to get young people not only listening but also fully involved through emails, texts and through creating their own programmes. How the station develops will depend on the young people themselves."

Brad Levy, from Lewes YMCA, added: "This is a great opportunity for the young people of Lewes to show the world what they can do and what issues are important to them, whilst developing communication skills and boosting self confidence in to the bargain."
