Police crack down on unsafe limos

A limousine being checked in Brighton last year A limousine has been seized and five others issued with prohibition notices after Sussex Police carried out safety checks in Brighton and Hove.

On Friday evening numerous vehicles, including nine limousines, were stopped in Marine Parade.

Officers said the vehicle seized had no insurance. Six other limousines were found to have traces of Class A drugs.

All of those stopped were found to have defects, ranging from poorly maintained tyres to carrying too many passengers.

As a result of the checks there were also two street cautions for possession of controlled substances, and 19 other vehicles were served with prohibition notices for a variety of offences.

Pc Gary Relf said the operation had been carried out to promote road safety and specifically to protect passengers who had paid for a vehicle which may not be in a roadworthy condition.
