Bid to change town centre parking

A permit parking plan to stop visitors clogging up Walton town centre has been put forward by Surrey County Council.

Details of the scheme have been on display in the The Heart shopping centre on Friday and Saturday.

A council spokesman said the plans were drawn up after residents and businesses flagged up the problem.

He said residents' comments would be considered and the proposals would be refined where necessary. The scheme is set to be in place later this year.

A further exhibition would be held at Walton library from Sunday until Wednesday, he added.

Under the proposed scheme, the cost of a resident permit would be about £35 for the first year.

And up to 30 one-day visitor permits, each costing £1, would be issued to each home within the parking scheme every year.
