An armed robber failed in his attempt to steal cash from a supermarket after a security guard locked himself inside a building housing the cash machine.
The cash delivery guard had just filled the machine outside the Tesco store in Caterham-on-the-Hill, Surrey, on Saturday morning when he was targeted.
As he made his way back to his vehicle he was approached by a man holding a hand gun who began shouting at him.
But the suspect was forced to flee in a waiting car when the guard took action.
Surrey Police said the would-be-robber got away in a grey BMW 5 series car, which had false number plates.
Face covered
The man was described as black, of medium build, and between 5ft 10in (1.7m) and 6ft (1.8m) tall.
He was wearing a dark navy blue hooded top with the hood up, a black bandana covering his face below his eyes, dark jeans, dark trainers and gloves.
Two other suspects with him were also described as black men.
Det Con Kevin Booth said no one was injured in the incident, which happened at 0800 GMT.
He appealed for anyone who was in the Guards Avenue area of Caterham-on-the-Hill at that time to contact police.
