Cars set alight in arson attack

Arsonists completely destroyed three cars in a "mindless attack" in Surrey, police have said.

Thousands of pounds in damage was caused by the blazes in Spencer Close, Sheerwater at about 0800 BST on Sunday.

Surrey Police said a grey Volkswagen Golf, a black Volkswagen Golf and a black Vauxhall Corsa were deliberately set on fire.

Det Con Chris Woolford said they were examining forensic evidence and had appealed for witnesses to contact them.

"We are working very closely with all three victims to establish whether there is any specific reason their cars have been targeted in this way," he added.

"Clearly, this was a mindless attack which will cost the victims thousands of pounds, not to mention the inconvenience of having to replace their cars and make insurance claims."
