Cat flap warning to stop thefts

Homeowners in Surrey have been urged to ensure their homes are adequately secured against thieves after criminal damage was caused to a property.

Police issued the warning after a suspect went round to the back of a detached house in Betchworth and reached through the cat flap.

It was unclipped from its fittings, although no-one entered the house.

Homeowners have been advised not to leave keys or valuables within easy access of cat flaps.

Pc Mike Bessent said: "This latest incident is incredibly unusual and may mean that burglars are going to extraordinary lengths to get into your home. Do not give them an easy ride."
