Roads shut after gun shots heard

Part of a Surrey town was closed off after residents reported that gun shots were being fired from a building.

Firearms officers surrounded a property in Guildford Road, Woking, and the force helicopter was launched after shots were heard at about 0835 BST.

The A320 road was closed and traffic in Woking was diverted while an investigation was carried out.

Surrey Police said a ball bearing gun and pellets was found at the scene and the roads were reopened at 1130 BST.

Officers are currently searching for two people who were seen inside the building.

Supt Kul Verma said: "This was a rare occurrence in Woking and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the public that the town is a safe place to live and work.

"I would like to take this opportunity to remind the community that individuals should be guarded in what they carry in public."

He added: "Owning a BB gun or replica is not illegal, however if it is carried in public and causes someone to have a fear of violence this is a potential offence with a maximum punishment of up to five years imprisonment."
