Woman's 'suspicious' death probed

The death of a woman in her 80s at her home in Surrey is being treated as suspicious by police.

Officers were called to the house in Sefton Road, Epsom, on Thursday afternoon after the body was found.

Surrey's major crime investigation team, which is leading the inquiry, has not yet named the woman.

A post-mortem examination was taking place at Guildford's Royal Surrey County Hospital on Friday, a spokesman for the force said.

Forensic tests

He said the identity of the woman would not be confirmed until after the post-mortem examination, and when her next-of-kin had been informed.

Neighbourhood officers were in the area to speak to residents nearby.

Forensic officers are examining the property.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Sefton Road area on Wednesday or Thursday, or has any information about the death, to come forward.
