A new library to be located in a Surrey shopping centre will be more tailored to the needs of the community than the old one, councillors have said.
Work started on the site in Walton, which has been in need of a larger, better-equipped library for some years, in October.
Surrey County Council said it would boast 6,000 more books, and 27 computer terminals when it opens next year.
There will also be new facilities for children thanks to a £100,000 grant.
The donation from the Robert Phillips Trust will provide for plasma screens, a play station console and games, and laptops in the Young Adult area.
The library will be located in the Heart shopping complex.
Christine Stevens, of Surrey County Council, said the facilities would be "a great improvement in a new, lively and exciting setting".
