Brewery site is back in business

A former historic Suffolk brewery has been given a new lease of life.

The Cliff Quay site in Ipswich was the home of Tolly Cobbold brewery for hundreds of years until it was closed in a takeover bid in 2002.

New owners of Cliff Quay Brewery, Jeremy Moss and Sam Bjornson have re-opened the site's pub, the Brewery Tap, and hope to start brewing beer soon.

Mr Moss said: "There isn't another brewery in the area. We want to bring the site back to life."

House beers

Tolly Cobbold began business in 1723 and employed hundreds of people from the area.

The new owners, who have both worked in the brewing industry, first came up with the idea to buy and run the brewery and pub in August 2007.

Mr Moss said: "We will start brewing two house beers. Then in the summer hopefully start on seasonal beers.

"It's also going to be educational so people can come and learn about beer. Have a better understanding, and some fun."
