Reward offered in shooting probe

A £20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the murder of a man in a Suffolk nightclub.

Jimoh Plunkett, 24, from south London, was shot in the chest inside the Zest club in Ipswich on 9 December 2006.

Suffolk Police said they were taking the "unusual step" of offering the reward as the second anniversary of the death approached.

More than 800 people were inside the club when Mr Plunkett was shot.

Det Supt David Cole, who has led the investigation over the past two years, said he hoped the reward would prompt those with information to come forward.

'Mistaken identity'

He said: "We know that over 800 people attended Zest for a 'Funky House' music event on Friday 8 December 2006 - 90% of them from London.

"We know that in the early hours of Saturday 9 December a number of shots were fired within the club, that Jimoh was struck with a bullet to his chest and that he then ran from the club before collapsing outside in the street."

Mr Cole said it was believed Mr Plunkett was targeted in a case of mistaken identity.

He said: "What we need now is the final pieces of information that will allow us to bring those involved that night to justice.

"We know there are individuals who have the information we need - and we are now offering them the opportunity to claim a reward if they help us."

Three other men were injured in the incident inside the club.

Zest was closed in the wake of the shooting and the site is now up for sale.
