Arrest after gas leak evacuation

Twenty seven homes in Suffolk were evacuated late on Wednesday night after a suspected gas leak was reported.

The incident was reported to police just before midnight. The affected homes were in the Gainsborough estate area of north Ipswich.

Residents were allowed home in the early hours.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested. He is being questioned on suspicion of threatening to commit criminal damage, a Suffolk Police spokesman said.
