Man dies after church tower fall

An 80-year-old verger has died after plunging from a bell tower during a marriage ceremony in Suffolk.

The East of England Ambulance Service attended St Mary's Church, Mildenhall, where the victim was found unconscious with a severe head injury on Saturday.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: "He had lost a lot of blood and went into a cardiac arrest and unfortunately we were unable to resuscitate him."

The death is not being treated as suspicious, a police spokeswoman said.

An inquest will be opened and adjourned in due course, she added.
