Five held over funeral murder bid

Five arrests have been made over an alleged murder attempt at a funeral.

The victim suffered head injuries when he was assaulted in the High Street in Newmarket, Suffolk, on 4 June.

A man, 44, from Watford, a youth, 17, from Surrey, and a man, 40, from Annan in Scotland, have all been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

A 17-year-old from Cambridgeshire was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a Surrey man, 48, was held on suspicion of assisting offenders.

They have all been released on police bail to return to Bury St Edmunds Police Station.

The victim was attacked after a funeral. He received treatment at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge before recovering from his injuries at his home in Lincolnshire.
