Work to explode a 1,000lb (500kg) World War II bomb off the Suffolk coast will continue for another day after it broke a tether that secured it to the seabed.
Royal Navy divers were trying to secure a detonator and charge to the bomb two miles out to sea off Felixstowe.
The bomb, found on a beach on Monday, was carried away in strong tides.
A Royal Navy spokeswoman said they were tracking the bomb but it would not be detonated until the morning. Divers were trying to find two sonar contacts.
When they locate the bomb it will be bouyed so its exact position is known.
The spokeswoman said the time available for divers to work was limited by the ebbs and flows of the strong tides.
A 500m exclusion zone imposed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency will remain in place until the bomb is exploded.
