Fire crews tackle chemical spill

More than 20 firefighters have contained a major chemical spill on an industrial estate in Hadleigh.

About 1,000 litres of hydrochloric acid, creosote and an unidentified liquid leaked out at Suffolk and Essex Supplies Ltd on the Lady Lane estate.

Suffolk fire crews washed some of the liquid into a holding tank.

The area around the scene was cordoned off early on Wednesday while crews using breathing apparatus and chemical suits attended.

Suffolk and Essex Supplies Ltd supply cleaning products for the food industry, swimming pools and spa baths.

Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid used to clean water.

No-on was hurt in the incident.
