Probe into school trip injuries

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has launched an investigation after several children suffered minor injuries during a school trip to the north Wales coast.

Three Year Six pupils from Grange Primary in Meir were taken to hospital after an incident on a beach on the trip to Prestatyn, Denbighshire.

It happened when several children slipped on rocks, said the school.

The council said it would be speaking to the emergency services to try to establish what happened.

The school said the trip was risk assessed and has written to parents.

Some parents have called for a meeting with teachers but the city council said that would not happen until after its investigation.

Day out

The trip had been organised for pupils celebrating Sats results.

Headteacher Rachel Beckett has issued a statement saying a child became distressed while in the sea. As a result, some children climbed onto rocks which were slippery and were hurt.

She said three children had received hospital treatment, one for a hurt knee and two as a precaution because they had swallowed some water.

She added the children, including those taken to hospital, went on to enjoy a full day out in Prestatyn.
