Traders' bid to promote village

Traders are trying to promote their Staffordshire village amid fears they are losing business to other areas.

Business people say Gnosall high street is too quiet, with many people driving through the village to go to shops and venues in Stafford and Newport instead.

Paul Prince, who owns the Vintage Wardrobe shop, warned the village could "die" and called for immediate action.

Traders have discussed the problem at a meeting and plans included sending out a free business directory to residents.

There have also been calls for a High Street cash point, which does not charge fees, and a regular farmers' market to attract visitors.

Mr Prince said: "The population of this village is larger than most towns.

"But most people work out of the village and tend to socialise and shop where they work. They probably go to a restaurant and basically come back to the village to sleep.

"We need to do something now to promote the village and put it on the map because if we don't do anything the village will literally die."
