Brothers on trial over fatal fire

Jessica Beech and Darren Asher

Two brothers from Stoke-on-Trent have gone on trial at Stafford Crown Court accused of starting a factory fire in which two people died.

Jessica Beech and Darren Asher, both 26, died in the blaze last July at the former Hamilton Reed factory in Hanley.

It was occupied by several homeless people and fire crews rescued one man.

A 19-year-old man and his 14-year-old brother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have denied two counts of arson and two counts of manslaughter.
