Fans urged to leave cars behind

Football fans planning to travel to Stoke City's first home game of the football season are being urged to travel on organised coach trips.

And Aston Villa fans travelling to the game are reminded that trains are not calling at Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday.

Staffordshire Police said drivers may have difficulty finding a suitable parking space near the ground as most of the spaces have been sold.

The force has put a traffic management plan on its website for motorists.

Supt Bernie O'Reilly said: "The best way to enjoy the fixture is to travel with other fans on supporters' coaches as the Britannia Stadium has a dedicated coach park next to the away stand."

Anyone travelling by train will have to change at Stafford and travel on a rail replacement bus service.
