Two men and a woman have denied killing a disabled man in order to inherit thousands of pounds.
Shane Edge, 21, of Longton, Staffordshire, denies suffocating Greg Baker, 61, with a pillow.
Stafford Crown Court heard Mr Edge, Lance Rudge, 20, and Thelma Purchase, 44, both of Meir, conspired to murder Mr Baker who was found dead last June.
Mrs Purchase was Mr Baker's carer and was to inherit £60,000 in his will, the court heard.
Mr Baker, who lived alone, was found dead at his cottage in Alton by carers during a routine visit on 16 June, 2007.
The prosecution allege Mr Edge, of Cliveden Place, was going to use his cut of the money to start a new life in Wales.
He told the court he had nothing to do with Mr Baker's death and did not know anything about the inheritance money.
Mr Rudge and Mrs Purchase, of Sherwood Road, also deny murder.
The trial continues.
