Fatboy to poll gig fans on Falmer

Fatboy Slim at the 2002 event Fatboy Slim has said he is planning to canvas local opinion on issues including the proposed Falmer Stadium during his New Year's Day beach party.

The DJ, real name Norman Cook, will use giant screens to test audience views during the event in Brighton, Sussex.

Issues include plans for Brighton and Hove Albion's new stadium and architect Frank Gehry's scheme for the King Alfred leisure centre in Hove.

Organisers of the Big Beach Boutique 3 gig moved onto the site on Thursday.

Ticket only

Building of the stage and other infrastructure will start on Friday, and continue through the weekend.

The stage in Madeira Drive will be set up west of the Concorde 2 venue.

Neither the stage nor the audience will be on the pebbled beach.

Monday's event is ticket only, with all 20,000 tickets selling out within five hours of going on sale.

Alcohol banned

Organisers have said it will not be possible to view the show for free from the upper promenade, and Marine Parade will be fenced off.

Recorded music will be played on site from 1400 GMT, while the live acts will perform between 1500 and 2000 GMT.

Drug dealers have been warned by the police to stay away from the event.

A police spokeswoman said there would be no random drug testing, but they would target those "whose main purpose for attending is to deal in drugs".

No alcohol or glass will be allowed into the concert enclosure.
