Drugs warning ahead of Fatboy gig

Fatboy Slim at the 2002 event Drug dealers are being warned by police to stay away from a Fatboy Slim gig taking place on Brighton beach, in East Sussex, on New Year's Day.

A police spokeswoman said there would be no random drug testing, but they would target those "whose main purpose for attending is to deal in drugs".

Big Beach Boutique 3 will feature live sets from Fatboy Slim and other DJs and is open to ticket holders only.

All 20,000 tickets for the gig on 1 January were snapped up in five hours.

Possession or use

The event was restricted to those with a BN postcode after the last beach party, in 2002, attracted an estimated 250,000 people.

Sussex Police said: "We will only test people for drugs either if we have specific information to indicate they are in possession of illegal drugs and dangerous substances, or if they are behaving in a way which strongly suggests they may be under the influence of illegal substances."

Two committees on Brighton and Hove City Council have given the go-ahead for the event.
