Four councillors and two managers from Brighton and Hove City Council, along with six young people, are showing what they do all day in the Lifeswap event.
The participants are taking photographs every hour of their waking day on Tuesday, and sending them to a website.
Members of the public will be able to view the visual snapshot of each life.
As well as comparing lives, the council hopes the event will help to portray young people in a more positive light.
Kerry, 18, who is one of the young people taking part, said: "I think images speak louder than words.
"This is a good way for young people to show councillors what their lives are like without having to sit and talk to them about it."
