Arrests made after store shooting

Margery Road Stores Arrests have been made after a man was shot in the face at a shop in Portslade, East Sussex.

A manhunt began after two suspects were thought to have fled the scene at Margery Road Stores on Monday morning.

Sussex Police said the force helicopter and armed officers were following leads after the incident, which left the victim injured but stable in hospital.

Officers could not reveal the number of arrests for "operational reasons" but said the search was still fast-moving.

The force did confirm there had been "a number of arrests".

The victim's injuries were not believed to be life threatening. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

'Open mind'

"We are investigating a firearms incident and have assigned a lot of resources to contain the crime scene," a spokeswoman said.

"It is too early to confirm the exact nature of the incident, but investigators are keeping an open mind as to a possible motive."

Officers are speaking to a number of witnesses at the scene.

"Police would like to reassure the local community that everything is being done to bring the offenders to justice," said the spokeswoman.
