Body of missing jet-skier found

Andy Funnell The body of a windsurfing champion who went missing at sea has been washed up on the shore near Bexhill, Sussex Police have said.

Officers say Andy Funnell's body was found on the shore at Bulverhythe on the night of 23 June and was formally identified on Monday.

A police spokesman said that an inquest would be held into the death.

Mr Funnell, 21, went missing on 15 June while riding a jet-ski off the coast of Seaford, where he lived.

His disappearance led to an intensive search by the coastguards, lifeboats and police after he was reported missing, presumed dead.

A vigil was held on Seaford's beach on 17 June to remember the British Windsurfing Champion, whose family and friends said they had accepted he was gone.

Windsurfers attending the vigil said Mr Funnell was a remarkable talent who had performed in competitions across the globe and had the world at his feet.
