Man faces rape charge 20 years on

A man has been charged with raping a woman in Barnsley nearly 20 years ago.

The woman, who was 35 at the time, was raped by a man who forced his way into her home on 23 September 1990, a South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said.

The case was reopened by South Yorkshire Police's cold case review team in 2007.

A 55-year-old Barnsley man who was arrested on Thursday has been charged with rape and burglary and appeared before magistrates on Saturday.
