Woman dies after motorway crash

A 24-year-old woman has died in hospital after her car collided with a lorry on a motorway in South Yorkshire.

She was driving a Ford Ka on the northbound A1M when it hit the hard shoulder barrier and then collided with a lorry at the M18 junction on Tuesday.

The injured woman, from Lincoln, was airlifted to Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield where she died later.

Both carriageways of the A1M between junctions 35 and 36 were closed for almost five hours.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
