Man, 28, held after death crash

A young man has died after a car carrying five people crashed into a telegraph pole and landed on its side.

The accident happened on the A638 at its junction with Hampole Field Lane near South Elmsall in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The four other occupants of the Audi A4 - two boys aged 15 and 17, an 18-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man - all escaped with minor injuries.

A 28-year-old man from West Yorkshire was arrested and is in police custody.
