Woman critical after hit-and-run

A woman in her 40s has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car which allegedly failed to stop in Somerset.

Emergency services were called to the A371 Wells Road in the early hours of 11 May after reports of the incident.

"Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, and both victims were taken to hospital," a police spokesman said.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene and failing a breath test.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at 0330 BST, at Rodney Stoke - between Cheddar and Wells - to contact police.
