Sex attack prompts extra police

Extra uniformed police officers have been drafted in to a Somerset town this weekend.

The move is to reassure the residents of Minehead following a serious sexual assault on a woman, 22, last Sunday.

"Most people out in Minehead would have seen an increase in officers in the town. We want people to be safe and feel safe," Insp Nick Crocker said.

Two men arrested in London on Friday in connection with the attack are being questioned by detectives in Taunton.

In the early hours of last Sunday police were called to the Co-operative supermarket in Minehead following reports of the attack in the store car park.

Shortly before this, and in a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman was physically attacked on The Esplanade.

Detectives believe the same man was responsible for both assaults.

Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses.
