Jobs fear at distribution depot

Up to 75 staff could be made redundant from a distribution base in Somerset.

Bosses at Wincanton have begun consultations with staff at the Bridgwater distribution depot.

The talks have started following a review by grocery chain Somerfield of its distribution network following the sale of its UK stores.

"The move in no way reflects the commitment and contribution of the Wincanton team in Bridgwater," the companies said in a statement.

The Co-operative Group completed a £1.6bn takeover of Somerfield last March. The move marked the effective end of the family grocery store which began in Bristol 130 years ago.

The Co-op plans to close the firm's Bristol HQ within 18 months and move staff to Manchester.
